This report analyzes the conflict in Aceh and the role of different Islamic groups active in Indonesia, particularly with regard to relief efforts following the December 2004 tsunami disaster. Particular emphasis is given to the Geraka Aceh Merdeka (GAM) or Free Aceh Movement and its relationship with other separatist or extremist Islamic groups.
