This paper discusses the strategic implications of a nuclear-armed Iran. The authors analyze the potential consequences of Iranian nuclear capabilities for both the regional stability of the Middle East as well as the national security of the United States. The paper discusses Iranian nuclear policies, programs, and decision-making procedures, as well as US methods and strategies for countering or containing them. The authors advocate that the United States pursue a strategy of reducing the political and military value to Iran for acquiring nuclear weapons.
