This paper explores ways in which the US can strengthen UN peacekeeping operations. It argues that US leadership and international cooperation are crucial to reform UN peace operations. It begins by defining peace operations and discussing reforms to strengthen the UN system. The paper argues that UN members can support these operations by providing trained peacekeepers. It focuses on the US funding role, its participation in the command and control of UN operations and the role of the US Congress in peace operations.
