This report investigates the applicability of confidence building measures (CBMs) towards security concerns in Central and Latin America. It explores the CBM principles of openness, transparency and communication and its potential to support security and cooperation in post-Cold War Latin America. The authors discuss applications of CBM for regional security from the Brazilian and Argentine diplomatic and foreign policy perspectives. They also discuss the impact of CBMs on the maritime sector and armed forces in Chile.
