This paper analyzes the 2009 events in Myanmar and the bad reputation amassed by the country's ruling regime abroad. The author looks at different diplomatic efforts toward Myanmar pursued by key regional and international players. According to the author, the main challenge for the international community is to find the right balance between the carrot and the stick, while the former should be emphasized more strongly.
