This brief examines the German-Russian 'special relationship' and its future in the wake of a global financial crisis and the German elections. The author examines the close business ties that dominate German-Russian relations, as well as the overall economic framework. The result, she argues, is that even if German foreign policy becomes more Atlanticist than before, Germany's Russia policy - focused on nurturing these crucial economic ties - will not lose its significance.
