This paper discusses the Aceh conflict and the 2005 peace talks between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka). The report provides a brief overview of peace negotiations since the collapse of the Suharto regime and outlines the main points of contention which have characterized the 2005 series of talks. The author concludes that for significant progress to be made, both sides must show flexibility in their positions and demands.
