This paper examines Sri Lanka's transition to peace following the defeat of the Liberation of Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) by the Sri Lankan army. The author notes that while Sri Lanka's international standing was damaged by the conduct and end of the decade-long civil war, the government has secured the gratitude of the majority of the people by ending the conflict. She also notes that the Sri Lankan government has a golden opportunity to move quickly to heal the wounds through timely and effective reconstruction and reconciliation. The international community, the author argues, needs to support this development.
