This brief examines the situation in Afghanistan in the run-up to the scheduled run-off election. It examines the election process, the invalidation of the initial results by the UN-managed Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC), the 'AfPak' context and the difficulties the US faces in reformulating its regional policy given electoral uncertainty in Afghanistan.
