This issue of the Canadian Military Journal (CMJ) opens with an address on the strategic challenges that face Ottawa in terms of diplomatic and military priorities. Next, it explores the role of the Canadian military in the post-Cold War battlespace, highlights the salience of the human aspects of leadership in air warfare, and discusses the usefulness of the Canadian public in defense policymaking. It also overviews the office of the Ombudsman for the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces (DND/CF), looks at methodologies used by defense planners to assess the trade-offs between different operations systems, and details Operation Flodden, an Anglo-Canadian attempt to recapture Berneval, France from the Germans during WWII.
