This issue of the Canadian Military Journal (CMJ) opens with a look at the cultural rift between Canada's conventional armed forces and Special Operations Forces (SOF). Next, it assesses the force structure of the Canadian military, analyzes Canada's SOF capabilities, and reviews Canada's historical experience with special operations. It also considers how well prepared Canada's interagency system for national security is to respond to a terrorist threat, discusses whether or not the UN Mission in East Timor (UNAMET) serves as a model for the establishment of a sustainable culture of peace, and evaluates Canada's maritime defense capabilities.
