This brief recounts the events following the disputed Afghan presidential elections in October 2009 up to Dr Abdullah’s withdrawal from the race and Hamid Karzai's declaration of victory. The author questions whether Karzai is able to win the support of the people to fight the Taliban. He concludes that Afghanistan will remain work in progress for years to come.
