This commentary examines the Asian naval environment with particular reference to submarines and possible accidents in Asian waters. The author analyzes current efforts to secure regional waters and prevent accidents as the submarine fleets of Asian powers grow. He argues that submarine rescue services in Asia are likely to be needed more than ever as regional navies attempt to exploit the depths.
