This report discusses how Eastern European countries coped with the difficult task of overcoming the socialist legacy after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The report focuses on the reintegration of former military servicemen into civilian life, an area that, according to the author, is under researched. By means of research conducted in the former Soviet satellites, the author highlights the shortcomings of the demobilization process and provides a list of recommendations for a successful integration policy.
