This publication discusses the increasingly friendly relations between the world's most powerful democracy, the United States, and its largest, India. The author argues that the rise in bilateral US-Indian cooperation is largely due to a substantial growth in mutual interests, such as containing China, winning the "war on terror", and protecting freedom of navigation in the greater Indian Ocean region. Nonetheless, the author explains why the new partnership will not develop into a full-fledged alliance.
