This commentary discusses three studies on the carrying capacity of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, noting the general consensus that shipping density will increase. All three studies also highlight that problems of congestion would first appear in the Singapore Strait. The author briefly mentions projects undertaken by Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore to improve the sea lane conditions.
