It introduces the issue of data protection and consumer concerns in e-banking and e-commerce activities, analyzes the findings and limitations of national initiatives prior to EU protections, and details the EU framework on data protection. It also looks at specific EU directives on financial privacy, surveys the 2002 EU revision process for the legislative framework on financial data protection, and concludes with a general assessment and recommendations for consumers, industry and policymakers.
