This policy brief looks at Taiwan’s aggressively pursued rapprochement with mainland China and gives recommendations for how the US policy should adapt to this rapidly changing cross-Strait environment. The authors argue that Taipei’s new strategy, though risky, has the potential to change the dynamics of the cross-Strait relationship and inaugurate a new era of stability and prosperity in both China and Taiwan. They call upon the US government to seize the unique opportunity to contribute to the rapprochement’s success.
