This book investigates Europe's dependence on Russian energy supplies and underscores the continent's need to diversify supply sources, calling attention to the Caspian region. It discusses the relationship between Gazprom and the Kremlin, and Turkey's role as a bridge between Europe and the Caspian energy markets. The book also profiles Azerbaijan's role as a key partner in Europe's push to secure Caspian energy supplies, considers the Nabucco pipeline project, and makes the case for why Europe should negotiate as a single, unitary actor vis-à-vis Moscow for energy supplies.
