The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has concluded a US$20bn deal with a South Korea company for the construction of four 1400 megawatt nuclear reactors to be operational by 2017. The deal is seen as an industrial benchmark for others to follow with mechanisms that promotes non-proliferation. We may be seeing a new era of nuclear power emerging, in the competition for a slice of the civilian nuclear market.
