Throughout the 1990s the issue of Roma and Sinti minorities has steadily gained currency both in the academic and international community. In Central and Eastern Europe, different types of approaches have recently been adopted towards the establishment of multi-layered structures for political participation of the Roma and Sinti communities. But whose interests are being addressed and what is the role of academic study of this timely issue?
