The "rise of China" feeds speculation about the future of the international system and its structures, the global economy, and energy security like almost no other. The strength of China's economy in comparison to other powers may be a matter of debate. However, what is certain is that China's increasing economic might, its political standing in Asia and other continents, and the possibility of superpower rivalry between it and the United States mean a great deal to German and European politics. They will also not leave Europe's relations with the US untouched.
