The paper explains and analyses the reasons why there was no Maoist insurgency in Bangladesh and also why the expected 'domino-effect' has not taken place despite the situation in the neighbouring India and Nepal. It argues, however, that there is no room for complacency as the potential for danger exists. This includes a new tactical alliance between the Islamist fundamentalists and the Maoist radicals called the 'United Front'. The paper concludes by underscoring the need to address the problem through appropriate policy measures, regional and international cooperation, and eternal vigilance.
