Karamoja, in northeastern Uganda, has been the focus of numerous government programs and interventions by NGOs, and the subject of much academic and policy research. The review provides an introduction and overview to the region and its literature, through examining key sources. It synthesises information and opinions from the literature on a thematic basis, under the following headings: the development situation and livelihoods opportunities/vulnerabilities; small arms control, supply and demand; governance, security, rule of law and access to justice; levels and forms of armed violence; society and culture; and capacities for conflict prevention and resolution.
