This paper analyzes India’s attempts at consolidating its position in the region by employing free trade agreements as effective tools for achieving its economic and strategic ambitions. The successful conclusion of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent three-nation tour of East and Southeast Asia has sent out strong signals regarding India’s deepening economic linkages with the region.
