This paper maps out the presence and activities of mainstream and minor political parties across South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It examines the political landscape, analyzing how certain parties have maintained their dominant positions and what the possible fate of smaller parties may be. The author provides a history of political Islam in Sulawesi, and also looks at the extent to which religion has been a factor in provincial politics.
