In this paper the author argues that too much emphasis was put on designing punishment mechanisms to deal with the crisis, and to prevent future ones. He then asks the question why so much emphasis was put on punishment. Finally, he argues that a greater role should be given to forgiveness, and he discusses what that means in practice.
