Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest challenges to face public health at the beginning of the third millennium, with the emergence of a "post-antibiotic" era threatening current and future medical advances. As well as increased mortality and morbidity, AMR also influences costs to the health service, patients and society.
