This brief examines President Trump’s position towards Israeli settlements. According to the brief’s authors, right-wing Israelis had hoped that Trump would shift US policy towards the settlement issue. However, the American President considers an Israeli-Palestinian arrangement to be the ‘ultimate deal’ and he has made it a high priority in his foreign policy. As a result, Trump’s policies have not significantly diverged from Obama’s approach and still aim to foster some kind of deal that's agreeable to both sides.
