This paper examines the agreement reached on 2 August 2011 between President Barack Obama and the US Congress on increasing the debt ceiling and discusses its likely ripple effects on the global economy. While South Asia is not well integrated into the global economy to feel the impact of developments a long distance from its borders, it too will be affected. The ripples will reach its shores.
