US-Pakistan relations have had a long history of closeness and warmth but for a variety of reasons their traditional understandings now run the risk of becoming unstuck. Each side feels the other is making unreasonable demands. Their alliance must be mended prior to the resolution of the Afghanistan imbroglio. This essay examines the lead-up to the current impasse and makes some recommendations designed to cut the Gordian knot.
