This paper provides a brief technical introduction to 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing (AM) and then addresses some of the geopolitical, economic and environmental implications. The authors discuss the state of the art, promises, limitations, and policy implications to AM, including how the ability to locally print almost any object could profoundly affect the course of the global economy.
