The EU has maneuvered itself into a corner by insisting on freedom for former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The authors argue that the problems in Ukraine run much deeper and a broader approach is required to achieve any meaningful results. The Tymoshenko episode presents an opportunity for the EU to fill the "values gap" in their foreign policy toward Ukraine.
