This briefing paper analyzes the situation in Spain and describes the political set-up for the elections on 20 November 2011. It concludes that the upcoming Spanish government needs to create jobs at all costs to prevent Spain from sliding back into an economic recession. It also expects Spain to enhance its role in international politics through pragmatic bilateral relations, in particular with the United States, United Kingdom and Poland.
