This paper focuses on political rise of Imran Khan in a highly troubled Pakistan. The author argues that Khan has thrown an open challenge to the governing Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Imran Khan is breaking new ground by being lifted from below by the youths. If he makes it to the top rung of the Pakistani political ladder, he would have performed a rare feat in the country’s history. His rise would have happened without being catapulted by family connections or being pushed up by institutional support such as that from the military.
