This article examines the antiglobalization movement's antagonism to the global system, especially in regard to national and transnational political, economic and military institutions. The author argues that this movement primarily uses social networks and internet forums (information technologies) to mobilize non-homogeneous groups, to exert substantial influence on political decision-makers, and to engage in widespread disinformation campaigns. He further states that social networks can incite terrorist violence or contribute to the consolidation of antagonist ideologies by catalyzing discontent. They can equally well consolidate consensus around national and super-national political and/or military institutions.
