In Sulu, Mindanao, the issue of election-related violence is prevalent and deeply rooted. In view of the limited capacity of local authorities to respond to the situation, the HD Centre and the Australian Agency for International Development launched the ‘Prevention Election-Related Violence -PERV' initiative in 2010. Its purpose is to monitor, assess and report back on election-related violence in the region to the Tumikang Sama Sama, a group of local eminent people who attempt to resolve the conflict or identify others who can help resolve it.
