This paper examines the threats emerging from recent terrorist attacks in the Malacca Straits. The author argues that action needs to be taken to ensure maritime safety in the region. One option would be the institutionalization of the IMO-sponsored meeting on the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. In this case, security costs could be shared and cooperation strengthened.
