This report analyzes the political elite surrounding Indonesia's president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his efforts, together with Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, to dismantle Golkar's control of the Indonesian parliament. The author argues that the supplanting of Golkar is one of the most significant developments in Indonesian politics since the fall of the Suharto regime and the achieved stability is a chance for Indonesia to improve the economic and welfare prospects of its people as well redouble its fight against corruption and terrorism.
