This report provides information on the role of private security consultants and private military contractors in Iraq. The author describes how the privatized military and security industry plays a key role in US peace support operations in general, but that the legitimacy and the role of the privatized military and security businesses in conflict zones remains a hotly contested and very unclear issue. The report emphasizes that the most important steps needed for demystifying the reputation of wartime security businesses and for clarifying the role of private military contractors in conflict areas are more extensive rules and regulations from the involved government agencies and military instances.
