This paper describes the religious and political concept of Islam Hadhari (Civilizational Islam) in Malaysia. The author explains how the emphasis of Islam Hadhari by the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is related to the popular resurgence of Islam in Malaysia. The paper states that Prime Minister Badawi?s political legacy will most likely be shaped by how his government is able to succeed in implementing its visions of Islam Hadhari.
