This paper discusses the projected economic rise of Asia and the Pacific Region in the first half of the 21st century. The author mentions how the anticipated economic boom in the Pacific Region will also bring a shift in the global distribution of merchant shipping and in international sea power. The author stresses the importance of managing the process of future economic growth in a multilateral framework that is just and internationally inclusive and brings benefits to the majority of people in the Pacific Region and around the world.
