This paper describes the rise of the terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi within the ranks of the al-Qaida organization. The author characterizes al - Zarqawi as the leader of a new generation of particularly ruthless and brutal terrorists and points out that al-Zarqawi has essentially also become al-Qaida's chief operations leader.
