This paper analyzes the use of the words "crusade" and "crusaders" by al-Qaida and other Islamic radicals when referring to the United States and its activities in the Middle East. The author states that the contemporary, propagandistic use of these words by al-Qaida represents a partial misinterpretation and misjudgment of the actual history of the Crusades in the Middle Ages.
