This brief discusses the new direction of Indonesia’s foreign policy. The author describes the Indonesian foreign policy as a unique amalgamation of two schools of thought - the idea of non-alignment and orientation towards the US - and as a policy of adaptation to changing geopolitical and geo-strategic landscape. The author argues that what Indonesia is trying to do is gain a leadership position in the region through constructive and cooperative gestures and balanced bargaining between major powers.
