This brief analyzes the situation in Pakistan that is characterized by weakness of all institutions except the army, and argues that recent events give indications of a possible turn-around and a more stable future. The author describes the role of the army, of the Islamist parties as well as of its neighbor India and elaborates the challenges for a future democracy.
