This paper addresses ambiguities in the relationship between social exclusion literature and poverty. It argues that these ambiguities arise from the fact that social exclusion is commonly not differentiated from poverty, even though it is widely acknowledged that social exclusion can occur in the absence of poverty. In order to resolve these ambiguities, the author proposes and presents a re-conceptualization of social exclusion.
