The authors suggest an alternative regional security strategy for South Asia in order to contain the radical forces and discuss India's role. This issue brief advocates that in the event of a Western disengagement from Afghanistan, it would be prudent to firewall the Afghan/Pakistani region from all sides, and keep only a minimal foreign military presence inside Afghanistan. Regarding India, the authors argue that the country has been fairly successful in firewalling the radical blowback emanating from Pakistan in the past and needs not be overly worried about the impending US withdrawal.
