This brief looks at the US government and its export control system. More specifically, it examines the two US legislative acts to enforce such export controls: The Export Administration Act of 1979 for the control of exports of dual-use goods and technologies, and the Arms Export Control Act for the export of defense articles and defense services as well as the US entity list. The author analyzes the consequences of these export controls for India and provides policy recommendations for improving their partnership.
