This article examines UN business partnerships from a theoretical development perspective. It argues that although these partnerships satisfy both the governance and the poverty reduction criteria, they are limited in their ability to deliver poverty reduction in practice. The author concludes that the capacity of UN-business partnerships to deliver poverty reduction will be determined by positive incentives for business that support the poverty reduction goal and disincentives against businesses who fail to comply with the plan of action.
